Blog about Barbet Yatzie & Moët

My life with the French waterdogs Yatzie born 2007 and her daughter Moët born 2011. Barbets are purebred, active, relaxed and allergy friendly dogs with a soft and loving spirit. I am Swedish but live with my dogs in Holland. I hope you will enjoy the blog! Enlarge the photos by clicking on them.

Yatzie's daughter Meru in Finland is successfully bringing up her 8 puppies that are now 4 1/2 weeks old weighing around 3 kgs. Meru is trained a hunting dog on a birds' farm, and judging from the lovely close-up her babies are already following in her footsteps!

My two barbets are of the so called "old line" with a strong bone structure and big open curls. Their very special trait is their wavy hair on their head. When you let the coat grow long and leave it in its natural shaggy appearance, not overgroomed, they look like this! I love this barbet look! Both of them have an easy to maintain fur, which does not need to be brushed more that once a month even in this length.

Moët is an incredibly energetic barbet, and in her eyes life is at its best when she is allowed to run free in the forest! The smell or site of a rabbit makes her believe she is in paradise!

Yatzie's version of "life is good"! She loves to relax on a matress, and in the evening she also always tries to get permission to fall asleep on our bed! Which she gets quite often!!! Cosy!

Darling Yatzie, my faithful companion for 8 years now. Always by my side. Never failing in her love and affection. You light up my life every moment of the day! I am so thankful to have you!

We had two special guests in the house this week: barbet Toutes and lagotto Lana (owner Brigitte Waller). It certainly added to the atmosphere and it is interesting to see how very different dog characters are, even within the same race. Yatzie and Moët are already different of course, but Toutes she has her very special ways: she is addcited to television and cats! So the first day she disappeared twice sneaking away without us noticing. Luckily she did not find the neighbour cat! In the evening we had to turn the television on for her (or any other screen) preferably Animal Channel, and she would happily be watching for hours! Today they went back home and we miss them a lot!
