Blog about Barbet Yatzie & Moët

My life with the French waterdogs Yatzie born 2007 and her daughter Moët born 2011. Barbets are purebred, active, relaxed and allergy friendly dogs with a soft and loving spirit. I am Swedish but live with my dogs in Holland. I hope you will enjoy the blog! Enlarge the photos by clicking on them.

From a more snowy Poland we have these lovely photos of Moët and Champagne's sister Ambeloui (Beli). Isn't she just gorgeous?

Today was the warmest January 25 ever measured in Holland! Around 17 degrees! We took the chance to enjoy the spring feelings by the shores in Vianen where these lovely Fjord horses have their home.

I got this lovely photo of Moët's full brother, Basil (Champagne de l'Esprit de bonté). Annemiek, his owners, says that she is crazy about him, that he comes along with her every day to her office and that he means the world to her. What a cuddle bear he looks like! Beautiful barbet indeed!

Hurray, f a little bit of snow, says Yatzie, who totally loves the feeling of cold and fluffy and becomes like a puppy again when snow falls, happily rolling around in it!

This is how relaxed Moët was last night while we were having dinner at a friends house. They even have two active and super sweet labradors that were circling around her and Yatzie. My dogs always lie down just by or under my chair when we are away. From time to time Moët also wants to sit on my lap. That is just fine with me!

For a puppy to control all that energy inside it not easy. The exercise "Wait" is very useful to train self control. This movie, also from Tanja Loerup, Vera's owner, shows the first time she trained this with Vera. This video links to Tanja's page on YouTube (Ett godt hundeliv) where she is sharing some of her training sessions. Maybe you will find more interesting tips there in the future.

Young puppies have lots of energy! As puppy owner one needs to offer the puppy different ways of experiencing the world and channel that energy into positive experiences. Searching for sweets is a very good way! You can hide the sweets indoors or outdoors, high and low. In this video Vera is searching for sweets in the snow, competing for them with her brother Helmuth and sister Vilma, which adds to the excitement and motivation. Searching is also a very good excercise to develop the puppies ability to use his / her nose.

Every dog needs to get his / her nails clipped regularly. But nail clipping can be very scary. Vera (Peliyah) is lucky to live with an experienced dog trainer who understands how important it is to train nail clipping in a positive way at an early age. See this video where Vera happily offers her paw to Tanja for a sweet right after the clipping of every nail. This is a very good example of positive dog training. Thank you Tanja Loerup, Denmark, for sharing this video!

When we eat at McDonald's, which only happens when we are on the road, we sometimes spoil the dogs with a hamburger each! They start drooling already when they see the yellow and red sign!

Bart had these two cute movies of the puppies in his phone from their very last days here. We are cleaning the puppy area and they are just around, to get used to the daily routines in a household. Look how they are getting friendly with the vacuum cleaner -  when it is off! Thought you might enjoy these, just like I did!

As you can see from these photos Vera (Peliyah) lives in a dog paradise in Denmark, with her four-footed brother Helmuth and sister Vilma and her two-legged sister Ella! We get lots of great stories from there and with a mother that is a dog trainer we have very high expectations and looking forward to take part  of the development of this sweet energy bomb!

Just a lovely photo of Moët hanging out on the couch.

Got these adorable photos of Osher in cold, snowy Canada!

Today we had puppy Elvi (Merveille) and her half sister Yeye here the whole day. We are lucky they live nearby (in our guest family) so we get to see them quite often! They have become best of friends and it was great to see them playing together today. They loved to play with and chew on the sticks we use to light the fire place and it quickly became a big mess here! I don't mind as long as the mess can be cleared without too much troubles (thank you Bart!)! They were after all having so much fun! See also the sweet picture I got from their owners Corine and Wouter with their daughter 16 months old walking Yeye on the leash!

Today the sun came out after weeks of grey, cloudy days. We celebrated with a trip to one of the dogs' and my favourite places - Vianen! The dogs were so enjoying themselves running over the fields, sniffing for rabbits and swimming -  see how they are laughing in these pictures!

Lizzy (Esperanza) lives in Limburg, in south Holland, together with her half sister Luna (from Yatzie and Toffee). In the area is a spectacular nature with swams and wide heathers where we took a wonderful walk with the four dogs. After running like crazy across the heathers the dogs enjoyed cooling off in the swampy waters. Waterdogs are waterdogs :-) !! Back home at Anja and Erik the dogs got a nice meal prepared by Anja. You can see them all four sitting politely by the kitchen counter (only Lizzy got a bit unpatient sometimes) waiting for it to get ready for them. Lizzy is just as good an eater as Bink, and weighs almost as much as he does!

When Bink (Benoit) and Moët met again they started to play so happily! See in the video how Moët is making the play bows for him all the time. At some point Bink had a rest leaning on top of Moët. So cute! Bink has grown a lot (he was always a very good eater!) and he now weighs 14 kgs!

In the days around Christmas and New Year I had the time to visit all of the Dutch puppies in their new homes! What a joy to see them again and to see that they are so happy with their new families. Here is Amaro in the forest with mum and grandma. See in the video how he is following Moët like a tail! All the dogs had a dip in the black, stinky waters so we gave them a bath back home. Amaro actually loves taking a shower together with his mum, and even jumps into the bath tub with her!
