Blog about Barbet Yatzie & Moët

My life with the French waterdogs Yatzie born 2007 and her daughter Moët born 2011. Barbets are purebred, active, relaxed and allergy friendly dogs with a soft and loving spirit. I am Swedish but live with my dogs in Holland. I hope you will enjoy the blog! Enlarge the photos by clicking on them.

Moët is now 19 months old and  the dark brown colour from her puppy months is replaced by a lighter coloured brown with a lot of grey hairs mingled in. Some parts of the body have more grey than other, especially the sides and the front legs. I have never shaved her. I keep her fur long on the sides and a bit shorter on the back. The sides are around 13 cms long and join in groups to form beautiful twisted strands. The shorter hair on her body forms large, open waves. The structure of Moët's hair is quite woolly and each hair is thicker than Yatzie's more silky hair structure. Her head has smaller waves and the hair on her nose is straight.

Yatzie and Moët in a twin posture. Look at  how they both hold their tails in the exact same position! Remarkably to see how alike their bodies and expressions are. Moët is 1½ cm lower (52,5) than her mother and weighs only 20 kg, Yatzie 25 at the moment (normally 23-24)! But when it comes to character they are very different. Moët is always ready for a walk or a playful fight, while Yatzie often prefers to relax. Yatzie loves to work for you - for food - and Moët prefers to work for play. Moët is always ready to please and obey while Yatzie, when not motivated to train for food, wants to do her own thing and is rather independant. What unites them in character - they both adore being cuddled with! The photos are from another lovely stay at the bed&breakfast Mollenvlied in Vaasen.

Darling Yatzie turns 6 years today! Happy birthday my sweet girl!

Unfortunately her day did not start that well... She caught the virus that Moët had a few days ago and was throwing up through out the night. In the morning we went to the vet and an injection has made her stomach calm down. She is now resting, very quiet. So I have to save Yatzie's nice birthday walk and bone for another day... Get well soon dear!

Wind and sun - a good combination for a photo session of a long haired barbet! Enjoy Moët!

Oh, please, can we also join? begged Moët, full of spring feelings, when she saw Margot and Brit on the trampoline. Of course they could! The dogs started a wild wresteling match. Who won? Both! They play so intensely together the mother and daughter, but it is always fair. First one under and then the other. Listening to them you could think that they are mad - they sound like lions - but they are simply best of play mates and dare to stretch and test the boundaries together! On our way home everyone was very happy and tired and it was a nice sight with kids and dogs all tangled up sleeping together in the back of the car! Thanks Gertrud and Werner for a great weekend!

The spring in Holland has not been this old for 20 or so years. Fortunately the sun was out this weekend and we could enjoy a long forest walk during our stay in Groningen. The dogs loved it as you can see! Yatzie penetrated every possible obstacle and returned with half the forest in her long fur!

This is what you can expect when you let your barbet run loose in the forest! They have such fun!

Again we spent a lovely weekend with our friends Gertrud & Werner who live on a farm near Groningen, North Holland. Yatzie and Moët were looking foward to seeing their friend the drentse patrijs Fledder! Moët played throughout the days with Fledder. But even though Moët is very energetic and loves to play she was the one who had to hide herself under a curtain to get some rest when Fledder wanted to go on! The family also have two beautiful black and white striped cows in a field just outside the kitchen window. A good and exciting experience for the dogs to be near the cows. In the beginning Yatzie started barking when she saw them moving in the field but later she got used to them. One of the cows has been mated with a male in the neighbourhood and a calf is expected any day!

Expecting!
